Day 30. Spring break is over #SOL2020 Challenge #SOLSC

Today, March 30th, 2020, I’m participating in Two Writing Teachers’ Slice of Life Story Challenge.

Technically, today I would have returned to school from Spring Break. Since I didn’t, I cataloged 32 books that I managed to sneak out of the library before all schools closed March 16th. My heart was telling me that we were going to be away for a long run. I am happy to have them ready. It gives me a sense of hope, and excitement to think of a future when my students can touch them, open them, and read them. In the meantime, I am toying the idea of making a series of videos to connect with students, and read them some of the books. I don’t know exactly what my principal is expecting from me, but surely enough, I do have plenty of ideas.

  1. Are you a librarian? I too grabbed stacks of books from my classroom and the library. Toilet paper was far less of a concern than books🤣 we are on the verge of hearing we are not going back. I will grieve the untaught lessons and the unfinished projects. I will continue to do what I can with my kids to keep them curious. Not sure how to step forward, my books are my comfort❤️

    1. Yes I am! Currently I work in an elementary school. On Wednesday we will have a virtual staff meeting to see how we can support our students. It’s really hard. Now I think, I should I have grabbed the disposable gloves that are in the library and where seldom used 😉

  2. E-learning has been exciting and intimidating for me. There are so many cool things that I want to do! I love your idea of filming yourself reading the books that you hope the students will one day get to read for themselves.

    1. Thanks Rebecca. I am excited but nervous. There are so many good online resources and teachers already that I find it very intimidating. Somehow we have to become shameless!
